SoundExchange Holding Over $200 Million In Unpaid Artist Royalties…

At SXSW recently, SoundExchange was trying to match $1 million in unpaid artist royalties. But the non-profit is holding an unpaid royalty account of more than $200 million, according to documents obtained by Digital Music News and information shared directly by the company. And, given the growth arcs, the amount may be quite a lot more.

ASCAP 2009 Royalty Collections Top $995 Million

Performing rights organization ASCAP said it collected over $995 million in royalties on behalf of its 380,000 songwriter and music publisher members in 2009, and paid out $863 million to members.

Recorded music sales continued to fall in Japan, part of a broader global trend. According to the latest from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), unit sales dropped 10 percent during the first quarter (year-over-year), and 16 percent by trade value.
