MySpace Officially Confirms iLike Purchase…
MySpace is indeed buying iLike, according to official disclosures by MySpace chief executive Owen Van Natta delivered Wednesday morning. The deal price was not discussed, though something in the neighborhood of $20 million has been surmised. The deal includes various strings to keep top players in the newly-integrated company, specifically Ali and Hadi Partovi.
On that point, MySpace indicated that the entire iLike team will remain intact, despite the geographical differences (MySpace is based in Beverly Hills, iLike in Seattle). “The iLike acquisition advances our relentless pursuit of innovation and the need to create new distributed social experiences in music and beyond,” Van Natta offered just before noon Pacific time. “We are deeply committed to bringing world class talent into all areas of the company and this acquisition demonstrates our focus on this objective.”
Also of note, there are no immediate plans to integrate iLike into MySpace Music, according to Van Natta. Instead, the plan is broaden iLike towards other media properties, and spread the application far and wide across the net.
