*MOG Secures $5 Million Funding Round…

Music blogging destination MOG has now secured a $5 million funding round, according to details confirmed by Digital Music News on Thursday.  The infusion, led by Menlo Ventures, is slated to be officially announced this morning.  Longtime backers Simon Equity Partners and Scott Jones are also participants in the round, and MOG now counts $12.5 million in aggregate financing.

As part of the latest infusion, Menlo’s Sonja Hoel Perkins will assume a seat on the MOG board.  MOG, which launched its public beta in 2006, also counts Universal Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment as strategic backers.  On the advertising front, Scion, TAG (P&G), Xbox, Nike, and LG are current sponsors.

And the numbers?  The latest stats show traffic volumes of 8 million unique visitors per month, and over 6,000 posts per week.  After three years, the site now offers archived access to hundreds of thousands of posts.  Those are solid numbers, though Menlo has ambitions towards grabbing a strong leadership position among music blogs and sites.  That mission could spread beyond the current blogging focus. David Hyman is MOG’s CEO.
