Dashboard Deliverance: Sirius Welcomes Recovering Auto Sales…

A see-sawing Sirius XM is suddenly seeing some positive news. According to the latest data from Autodata Corp., North American automobile sales seriously rebounded in March. In the US, sales recovered a noticeable 24 percent, albeit from a distressed 2009.

Part of the bounce actually came from Toyota, which is offering zero-percent financing and other incentives to spruce buyer confidence. That boosted year-over-year sales by 41 percent for the company. Overall, US-based volume pushed past one million cars and light trucks, specifically to 1.07 million. GM gained 21 percent, and Ford bounced 40 percent.

Seriously-discounted stickers and huge incentives undoubtedly bumped volumes, though the data is encouraging nonetheless. And, from the perspective of Sirius, more volume means more opportunity for conversions. The dashboard remains a critical listening playground for subscribers, and some automotive recovery last year helped Sirius claim a profitable fourth quarter.
